Conceived in October 2004 by Maxine Encalade, James Adams and Reginald Young. Houston Soul.com is the preferred online destination for African Americans in the Greater Houston Area.Our goal is simple...but effective: to provide a centralized website with a national appeal where African Americans living or visiting the greater Houston Area can find information about local news, business, entertainment and other resources. We have also developed a targeted resource for sponsors and local businesses to reach the growing number of African Americans online everyday in the Houston area. Houston has been named the No. 5 city for African-Americans by Black Enterprise magazine.
Houston's African-American population ranks 5th in the United States based on earned income - representing $11.2 billion in spending power in Houston.More than 800,000 African Americans support numerous Black-owned restaurants. Must-see Afrocentric sites include the Shrine of the Black Madonna Cultural Center, Biggers Art Gallery at Texas Southern University, American Cowboy Museum, The Ensemble Theatre, and Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. CushCity.com, the worlds largest online Black bookstore is located here. And now, the Starving Poets are keeping it real at various places around town.
In the last 10 years, Downtown has developed an identity thats sure to please. Yes the attractions are spread around this region of diverse cultures and history.
